“AN AMERICAN RAY DAVIES”
As featured on THE CLEANERS FROM VENUS podcast, JOE NORMAL® ain’t yer average Working Class Hero. Tough to impress Americana UK Magazine even called him “an American RAY DAVIES,” a mighty high compliment for an artist raised on classic Britpop by THE KINKS, THE BEATLES, THE WHO, and ROLLING STONES.
Always rooting for the underdog, Joe Normal's song “HARDSHIPS” is a friendship themed collab with guitarist Joe Guese (LINDA PERRY, THE CLICK FIVE) that picks up where THE REPLACEMENTS & TOM PETTY might have left off with its Americana Rock heartbeat, reminding us no matter how tough the sh*t gets, you can count on Mr. Normal for a tuneful uplift and lighthearted commiseration.
His latest album "I'M NORMAL PEOPLE" blends elements of jangle-pop, indie singer songwriter, and early American Rock n Roll which surprisingly works well to reveal a multi-faceted artist with a broad palette of influences in an era where bands stick to a one dimensional formula. Joe Normal's music challenges the algorithm by taking cues from classic albums like THE BEATLES' WHITE ALBUM, and gives listeners a diverse offering while emphasizing song, melody, and storytelling.
Leaving the sooty factories of New Jersey for the underground rock scene of London, England at the height of the 80's glam rock revival, Joe landed in the alleyways of Los Angeles and rose to the top of the Sunset Strip glam-rock scene as a founding member of the legendary purple haried rockers THE ZEROS. He later co-wrote on SAMMY HAGAR ’s “Not 4 Sale” album, and recorded with punk icon STIV BATORS & LORDS OF THE NEW CHURCH, all the while remaining focused on building his own catalog and solidifying his own brand as a blue-collar rocker / singer songwriter.
He’s shared stages with GUNS n ROSES, ELLIOTT SMITH, GENE LOVES JEZEBEL, DRAMARAMA, JESSE MALIN, DOGS D'AMOUR, THE SMITHEREENS, BASH & POP, GIN BLOSSOMS. Appearances on TV, Film & Radio alongside Howard Stern, Peter Noone, Erik Estrada & Chef Bobby Flay have given Joe a love for the screen.
Normal's personal flair, artistry & relatable songs about working class life, its people, and struggles, speak to fans of IAN HUNTER, CLEANERS FROM VENUS, PAUL WESTERBERG, GRANDPABOY, TOM PETTY, JOHN COUGAR MELLENCAMP, and WILCO.
Enjoy your stay in NORMALTOWN.
